About the Author

The Yeakleys have been on staff with The Navigators since 1978. They have three married children—Michael, Amy, and Stephen—and five grandchildren.

I found this ten week bible study to be a great resource for leader development. There are two parts to this study; the first is foundational character qualities: love, integrity, humility, and servanthood. The second part is supporting character qualities: purity, faith, patience, self-control, teachability, and courage. Each topic opens with a reading section devoted to that particular quality which can be read in 15 minutes or less. The study is divided into four sections.
Bible Study: Here is where you will spend quality time looking up the references provided and writing down things you have observed about each topic. The amount of scripture varies.
Memory Verses: Four verses are given with each chapter.
Prayer: Ideas on how you can stimulate your prayers about each topic.
Exercises: These will help you develop your leadership abilities in each area.
Obviously, the more time you spend going over the scripture verses and the exercises the longer it will take to accomplish each chapter, but it is time well spent!
I would highly recommend this Bible study and I am pleased to give this book a five star rating.

Growing Kingdom Character by Tom Yeakley

Growing Kingdom Character is a developmental book. The focus is to grow into a mature, Christ-centered leader. Using scripture, personal stories and examples the author works us through key character traits of an impactful leader.

Tom did a fantastic job with this book. He began by looking at a study of common qualities of missionaries who had served and finished well. From this list, he built this study. This is not a skills based development. It's character. The difference is that regardless of skills, it's character that will get you to the end.

The study begins with foundational character qualities: Love, Integrity, Humility and Servanthood. Once the foundation is built, the study moves on. The next level is supporting character qualities: Purity, Faith, Patience, Self-Control, Teachability, and Courage. These 10 areas provide the foundation for a strong Christian leader.

Each section has great scripture references, stories and examples to define each quality. Once the quality is defined, there are sections for Bible study, scripture memory, guided prayer and practical development exercises.

This is a great resource for an individual to grow as well as a mentor to teach to others. Tom's care in being a Christ-like leader is obvious from the careful way he crafts his message.

I'd give this book a 5 out of 5.

Growing Kingdom Character by Tom Yeakley is a Bible study handbook aimed at developing ten character qualities in leaders. The book is divided into two sections of foundational and supporting qualities. Love, integrity, humility, and servanthood make up the first set. The second set is comprised of purity, faith, patience, self control, teachability, and courage.

NavPress is well-known for quality discipleship materials, and this book is no exception. Though I find the distinction between "foundational" and "supporting" qualities a bit arbitrary, I agree that all ten are important for any Christian, leader or not.

The author laments that many times young leaders go into ministry seeking to acquire skills for leadership but lack the essential character qualities that make a good leader great. As a young leader myself, this warning resonated with me and I found the book to be quite the tool for developing character qualities so necessary for ministry.

This book would definitely aid in mentoring or small group discipleship of leaders, especially young leaders. I would recommend this book because, on top of the well-written and thorough chapters, the verse studies, prayer, and practical application points at the end of each chapter would be a great Bible study tool in and of themselves. This is definitely one book young leaders would benefit from, and anyone wanting to grow in those ten areas. The retail price is a steal!

I am tired of wanna be pick up artists, and people who steal others ideas. I liked alot of the thoughts in this book, but they were all taken from others original thoughts. This book read more like a book review, and the author has a pretentious attitude toward some of my all time favorite authors.

Not horrible but not really anything worth applying on a woman. The book went in so many directions that I couldn't keep up with the purpose. The author acts like it is a book for picking up women in some parts but then it pretends to focus on relationships. 2 different things man.

Content good, but....

The content of this book is good, and I found it helpful. I disagree that you need a PhD to understand it. To me, it seemed as if a complex subject was actually simplified. If enough people would approach relationships in this manner, we'd have fewer broken homes and heartache. However, since I'm a writer, myself, I was too often distracted by very poor sentence construction at times and the obvious need for a good editing job. It's wonderful when someone with expertise in a field shares his knowledge with a broad audience, but a good book should also be edited for grammatical errors and awkward sentences.

Notwithstanding, having splendid control of thoughts, ideas, and imagination with brilliant balance, the vividness and luminosity of this young author revealed great literary potential and value. In fact, this narrator shows great brilliant and skill as she takes you through an adventure of romance and suspense-filled settings that are strikingly consistent with the title. Indeed, she demonstrated the talent and flair of a gifted young author. Despite the superfluous use of strong language and sexual images, this novel ended beautifully, as if there was an epiphany at the conclusion.

An essential purchase for structural FE designers!

This is an excellent introductory text and reference manual for any engineer that performs structural analyses. The fundamentals of finite elements are covered without excessive maths and all the concepts are explained very clearly with reference to real world examples (something that is very lacking in other similar books). If you are looking for a guide on how to perform FEA, how to set up well defined problems, how to choose the correct elements, how to choose the correct solver etc. then this book is for you!

This new edition is a big improvement on the previous edition: the presentation is a lot clearer, the print quality is better and it has been expanded with more examples and also an appendix with extra information on matrices etc. As a design engineer I find myself referring to this book quite a lot (I have owned the first edition for a few year now) and I consult it before I tackle a new problem. The final section with the case studies sums up all the chapters with real world (i.e. practical) examples. Highly recommended!

This book is highly recommended for amateur CAE modelers. And at the same time it is not recommended for college students who had not gone through basic FEA courses or either well versed CAE pundits. That said for those who know the basic FEA principles and want to spread their wings doing some CAE work using Abaqus, Nastran or some other solver its very informative!

Great book! Must have for an Analysis Engineer

This book is very informative and helpful in understanding FEA. It is good to understand FEA theory (code and mathematics), and there are many books written on that subject, but this book will help you understand in a very practical sense what is going on in your analysis.
