Matt Dennis is a teacher and songwriter on the Los Angeles scene. He has been a guest on a variety of TV shows and has appeared at leading clubs and concert halls throughout the country. Comprehensive for the adult learner

I have considerable musical background (I have played trumpet for 15 years, guitar for 6, and numerous other instruments) but never really sat down to master the mechanics of keyboard playing. This book was exactly what I was looking for because it starts from the basics of two-handed fingerings, and takes the player all the way to chord playing, etc., which is what I will focus on as a worship leader and musician. While this book moves quickly through theory and does not hand-hold, it does still cover a lot of ground from the basics to more complex concepts in music. The complete novice will probably not feel comfortable with this, but I still have to say that I am pleased and impressed with the scope of this book. If you have some musical background and are looking to cross over into piano as a second (or third or more) instrument, you will most likely appreciate this book because it does not dwell on the elementary concepts you are already familiar with.

The Real Deal

Well, overall this is a good book. Mostly it lets you practice and has tons of great material to play but it lacks showing detailed instructions for begining players. You will want to get another book on music first to learn the basics. Like notes, time signagatures, and every thing else. Once you have mastered the basic skills of music this book is excellent for carrying on your music skills in the piano.

Definitely Not For Beginners

I started out in music by purchasing Mel Bay's Complete Method For Modern Guitar, which I rate 12 stars. The write up about what Mel Bay's Complete Method For Modern Guitar offers anyone is absolutely true, if you work hard and apply yourself.
What does this have to do with playing the keyboard? Read on: When I finished the course, I understood the "mysteries" of MUSIC. Now, I'm into keyboarding. I bought one, brought it home and began playing it almost instantly without ever having a lesson. Was it magic? Was it a "miracle"? Definitely not.It was because of the knowledge I gained from Mel's music course. Music is music. No matter what instrument you play. The only thing I have to work at is the famous left and right hand-playing simultaneous "thing."
A friend of mine recently bought his daughter a keyboard. This was after seeing my keyboard and after my giving him a demonstration of the technology and versatility this instrument offers-besides being fun to play. He also bought Mr. Dennis' book about teaching yourself Piano. He and his wife looked at the book and couldn't figure it out. So, he called me. He thought the book would be using the "spoon-fed technique." I looked it over and told him to send it back. This book is definitely not for beginners. If one doesn't already have an understanding of music theory, sight reading, etc., this book will mean nothing...particularly if you're 8 years old. So, I started giving Jamie music lessons until her parents find a teacher who does that for a living. 'Cause I don't. I'm just helping a friend out.
I hope my opinion helps someone out. Thanks for giving me a chance to express it.

Invaluable for Getting Through the Election of 2016

I am very deeply grateful to this book for helping me through this tempestuous election year (2016). Be forewarned: this is a work of philosophy. It's dense. While it is readable, it takes some effort for people who don't have a philosophical background. But I don't have a background in philosophy, and I was able to absorb it. I took my time and worked through it slowly. What you have here is not reasoned opinion supported by evidence but a valid argument with evidence and examples. At a time when propaganda is literally grinding the earth to pieces, this has been an invaluable resource for me. I feel I now have a foundation for understanding what I take into my nervous system on a daily basis, even with careful filtering of news sources. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to investigate the origin and power of the illusions that distract us from the single task we should all be focused on, the one that won't wait: how to mitigate and hopefully survive climate chaos.

It opens, as one might expect, with the exemplar of propaganda: the Third Reich. The initial pages aren't circumscribed to Goebbels and his propaganda ministry, but to the syntactic structure of language that was typical of the regime's public addresses, ordinances, and policies. Our introduction to the world of propaganda might seem a little pat to cushion it in the folds of totalitarianism; however, Stanley is not at all interested in demarcating the moral degrees of propaganda - to any inquiring mind, as far as he's concerned, the truth is the truth. Stanley provides numerous examples of propaganda, from the pre-Christian era to the present day, where deft exploitation of the language inscribed in Detroit's municipal legislation saw the severance of water and electricity across its urban territories. Stanley's work, though, is not a chronology of the excesses of propaganda and its permutations throughout the ages, but a thorough evaluation of its epistemology. Bearing this in mind, one ought not to be surprised that this is largely an exercise in philosophy, as opposed to political science. This is closer in tone to Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent," a text that stands at the crossroads between political analysis and linguistics, than to the foundational work of Bernays or Lippmann. I must admit that my initial response to the book was one of disappointment, but that was due to my anticipation of its content. It's not that my expectations weren't met, rather they were reserved for a different book. I am not a philosophy major, but have pursued the discipline privately for years; however, those unfamiliar with subjects like the semantic meaning of language would do better to invest their time with Wittgenstein, Kripke, Quine, Searle, et al, before reading this. Those who have a passing understanding of the analytic tradition will likely appreciate what it's going for. This certainly isn't, despite its unassuming title, an easy book to read. If you are interested in reading about propaganda in the sense generally understood, then I'd recommend the authors previously mentioned, especially Lippmann and Chomsky. To Stanley's credit, though, this isn't a deliberately obscure work, but the culmination of intellectual trends in 20th and 21st century philosophy and sociology. I recommend it all the same.

This book is more than just veneer. It has the look and feel of a coffee table book. There are glossy pictures and plenty of diagrams. However after the shock and awe, you will find this a great overview of many wood working disciplines. This book has information on everything from the history and makeup of various woods to tools used in various types of wood working.

My interest is mostly in turning and turning tools. There a tab in the margin of the book page that leads you to similar information on the subject. This is the in print version of a Hyper Link.

After absorbing this book you will have a better feel for what how you want to proceed. Then the book is still useful for a reference. If you do not actually indulge, at lease you can hold an intelligent conversation.

Growth producing revelation

The book The Power and the Passion will highlight then true meaning of being a disciple of God. It is a critical book for Christians of all ages, teen through adulthood, regardless of maturity level. There have been many that have been saved for a long time and are resting in complacency. Author Adam Houge will help set a revival fire in your heart to understand our need to draw closer to Him. If there is anyone you know that has lost their first love this resource will kindle the fire anew.

As he teaches you to admonish the Scriptures you will learn the truths about Calvinism and how the Holy Spirit desires to be The Great Teacher in your life. Throughout the book there are fitting Scriptures that will prove false teachers exist and admonish us to show love and mercy with the possessions entrusted to us. Beware of the snares that beset us as Houge teaches about false prophets and not following God's will for your life. We are to examine our lives daily, he states, to ensure our love walk while speaking the truth in love despite persecution.

The Lord has shown this author many things including allowing him to survive near death experiences. As he shares his heart with you, it will be as if the Lord is discipleing you, for in fact his revelation comes from the very throne room of God. You will grow in greater maturity with this resource and make an impact with those around you. I recommend this book for the timely truths in the days we are living in.

Spiritual Life 101

Okay first the complaints. This book needs a good editing job bad. There are division signs in random places all over this book and it is very distracting. Then there are three fonts used in this manuscript and they switch from one to the other with no rhyme or reason. This is also very distracting. There also several misspelled words in the text.
Okay saying all that the content and message of this book is stellar. This is a very spiritual book it tells how to walk in God's spirit and way. It also tells you the pitfalls to avoid. I would recommend this book to anyone who is religious or spiritually minded. I enjoyed reading this book and I intend to read more of his books.
So 5 stars for content 3 stars for editing.

A SERIOUS GROWTH TOOL FOR THE SERIOUS CHRISTIAN!

This is a Serious growth tool for the serious Christian! I found it to be helpful in my own walk and would recommend it for yours. The author starts out talking about how various christian practices don't actually honor god. Then he calls us to be founded on the scriptures and have regard for truth because. Jesus is truth. I find myself agreeing with this seeing that he uses literally over 300 verses to prove his stand point. He calls u to be founded in the word then does exactly that by leading u to it. This is not a book full of fluff, but has a lot of meat to it.

If you want to grow in your walk then pick this one up!

Most useful resource out there

Yes, it's true - ISACA have a stranglehold over the material for this certification. However, it is also true that if you study this book you should be able to reason your way to an answer... if you understand the concepts that are laid out in the sections covering the 4 domains. The end of chapter questions were invaluable as an insight into the question format they use (some people have complained that they are unecessarily confusing). If you don't want to flush away the exam fee don't resist buying this (admittedly expensive) book... Suck it up, study, pass and look at it as an investment in your career - because it is!

Really Good!

Even though it's short, there still enough story to be satisfying. I liked every one I was introduced to, except the hyenas of course, lol. Looking forward to the next books in the series. Technically well written also. Thumbs up!

Bare in the Bar: BBW bear shape shifter romance is book one in the Shifter Town series by Novalee Swan.

Bear Reid purchases bars that are in trouble and cleans them up. Once he has things where he wants them, he moves on. As soon as he took over the bar in Rosewood, Tennessee, he felt the pull towards the sexy waitress, Kelly. At first she seemed to feel the same way, flirting and lots of fun conversations while closing down the bar at the end of the nights. But all of a sudden, she just shut things down, avoiding him. All that was left was lots of sexual tension. Oh, and did I mention that Bear is a sexy bear shifter?

Kelly McKenna used to hate her job as a waitress at the bar. But as soon as Bear bought it and cleaned things up, it became a much better place to work. She couldn’t keep her eyes off her new boss. She knew he was attracted to her as well. But once she realized he would be moving on soon, she couldn’t risk the heart break. So she shut her feelings down.

Things are busy on this particular night and there is a pack of hyena shifters playing pool. They have had a lot to drink and decide instead of playing pool, they want to play with Kelly. But Bear realizes Kelly is in trouble and saves her. This is just what they needed to open the gates to their feelings towards each other. What Kelly doesn’t realize is the depth of Bear’s feelings. She is his mate.

This is a short, hot story. It was just ok for me, it felt a little awkward at times but it gets a half point for the hotness factor. I liked the secondary characters as well, Kelly’s best friend, Ashley, a lioness shifter, and Cage, the town sheriff who is a lion shifter. These two are featured in book two, Caging Ash.
